Levofloxacin (Levo-Floxa-Cin), the active ingredient in Alfacef tablets. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as quinolone antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This antibiotic treats only bacterial infections.
Levofloxacin( Alfacef) is used to treat infections of the sinuses, skin, lungs, ears, airways, bones, and joints caused by susceptible bacteria. Levofloxacin( Alfacef) is frequently used to treat urinary infections, including those resistant to other antibiotics, as well as prostatitis (infection of the prostate).

Tendon rupture or inflammation: This drug is linked with an increased risk of tendon rupture and tendonitis (swelling of your tendons). This can happen at any age. The risk is higher if you’re over 60 years of age or are taking corticosteroid drugs. It’s also higher if you’ve had a kidney, heart, or lung transplant.
Peripheral neuropathy (nerve damage): This drug may cause peripheral neuropathy. This condition causes damage to the nerves in your arms, hands, legs, or feet, which lead to changes in sensation. This damage may be permanent. Stop taking this drug and call your doctor right away if you have any signs of peripheral neuropathy. Symptoms include pain, burning, tingling, numbness, and weakness.
Central nervous system effects: This drug raises your risk of central nervous system (CNS) effects. These can include convulsions, psychosis, and increased pressure inside your head.
