Amrizole: A Powerful Antiprotozoal and Bactericidal Medication

Amrizole is a medication known for its potent antiprotozoal and bactericidal properties. It contains the active ingredient metronidazole, which is highly effective in treating various anaerobic infections and protozoal diseases. In this blog post, we will explore the composition, properties, indications, dosage, side effects, and other essential information about Amrizole.

Composition and Properties

Amrizole comes in two forms:

  1. Suspension: Each 5 ml of the suspension contains 200 mg of 2-(2-Methyl-5-nitroimidazole-1-yl) ethyl benzoate, which is equivalent to 125 mg of metronidazole.
  2. Tablet: Each tablet contains 250 mg of metronidazole in the form of 2-(2-Methyl-5-nitroimidazole-1-yl) ethanol.

The active principle in Amrizole, metronidazole, exhibits strong antiprotozoal and bactericidal actions. It is particularly effective against anaerobic infections involving conditions such as septicaemia, necrotising pneumonia, puerperal sepsis, pelvic abscesses, cellulitis, and postoperative wound infections. Additionally, Amrizole is known to combat infections caused by “Trichomonas vaginalis” and other protozoa like “Entamoeba histolytica” and “Giardia lamblia.”
