Cipazole forte – Anti-Protozoal Drug –

Composition: Each tablet contains: Secnidazole 1 gm.

Properties and Mechanism of Action: Cipazole forte contains Secnidazole which belongs to Nitroimidazole derivatives. It is an antiprotozoal drug which has pharmacological activity against Intestinal and Hepatic Amebiasis, Giardiasis and Trichomonas vaginalis. Recent studies showed that a single 1 gm oral dose of Secnidazole is effective to cure bacterial vaginosis associated with Gardnerella vaginalis. 

Indications and Usage

Cipazole forte is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Intestinal Amebiasis. 
  • Hepatic Amebiasis. 
  • Giardiasis.
  • Urethritis and vaginitis due to Trichomonas vaginals. 

    • Contraindications

    Cipazole forte is contraindicated in:

  • Patients with known hypersensitivity to imidazole derivatives.
  • Pregnancy and Lactation.

    • Side Effects

    Digestive disorders with abdominal pain, change in taste, glossitis, stomatitis.

    Urticaria, moderate leukopenia, reversible upon withdrawal of treatment. 

    Drug-Drug Interactions

    Alcoholic drinks and alcohol containing medicines should be avoided during Secnidazole treatment.

    Precautions

    Do not administer to patients with a history of blood dyscrasias.

    Dosage and Administration

    Acute Intestinal Amebiasis: One-day treatment 

  • Adults: 2 gm (2 tablets) as a single dose. 
  • Children: 30 mg/ kg as a single or several divided doses. 

    • Hepatic Amebiasis: Five-day treatment 

  • Daily dose: Adults: 1.5 gm (one and a half tablets) as a single dose.
  • Children: 30 mg/ kg as a single or several divided doses. 

    • Urogenital Trichomoniasis: 2 gm (2 tablets) as a single dose.

    The dose preferably be taken during a meal.
